Vattenfall invests SEK 700 million in Harsprånget
The Swedish state-owned energy group Vattenfall is investing more than SEK 700 million in Sweden’s largest hydropower station.
The Harsprånget hydropower station in the Lule River in the municipality of Jokkmokk is important for Sweden’s electricity supply. With its production of 2 TWh, it is Sweden’s largest hydropower station.
The investment involves a new transformer, control centre and local switchgear. The capacity will increase by 15 MW to 826 MW. In total, Vattenfall’s hydro power stations have an installed capacity of 8,500 MW. In total, hydropower in Sweden has a capacity of approximately 16,000 MW.
“I am very pleased with the investment in Sweden’s largest hydropower station in a region where several important projects for the industry’s transition are underway. This is one of several steps to secure hydropower production, which with its 40 per cent of total electricity production in Sweden is the backbone of the electricity system,” says Tord Eriksson, acting CEO of Vattenfall Hydropower in the Nordic region.
