Press release from the Port of Argentia

Argentia, NL – March 14, 2023. Capitalizing on its strategic niche as North America’s first monopile marshalling port, the Port of Argentia is pleased to announce it has secured its second major contract in support of US offshore wind development. These contracts will continue to solidify the Port’s competitive advantage as a monopile marshalling yard for US offshore wind. The Port is experiencing unprecedented demand for marshalling support as part of the US energy transition.

Port CEO Scott Penney states, “Working in collaboration with our global partners in the renewable energy space, the Port secured its second major contract to offload and marshall offshore wind monopiles for eventual installation at project fields off the East Coast of the US. Previous Port infrastructure investments will continue to position Argentia as a strategic location to capture other oversized transport and storage projects in the renewable energy and other industrial sectors for generations to come.”

Heavy transport vessels will arrive and from dockside, monopiles will be transported to a bonded storage marshalling yard on the former U.S. naval air station runways in the Argentia Northside Industrial Area by self propelled modular transporters.

In preparation for the arrival of monopiles, the Port will continue to see investment upgrades exceeding $10M on infrastructure improvements including additional road widening, maintenance of current infrastructure and creation of 3-acres of new laydown lands adjacent to docking facilities, bringing total quayside laydown in excess of 12 acres.

Board Chair Wayne Power states, “Argentia has been active in pursuing opportunities in the renewable energy space and these contracts endorse our key features and strategic location as we earn the confidence of global players and successfully execute major projects. This work creates important economic spinoff for the Placentia region and the entire Province.”
