Eyeing a post-pandemic future, Hurtigruten sells properties in Svalbard

Though the tourism company has been hit especially hard by coronavirus restrictions, it says the sale to Store Norske had been in the works before the pandemic began.

The cruise ship company Hurtigruten has over many years significantly grown its presence in Norway’s far northern archipelago of Svalbard and today owns several hotels, office buildings, apartments and shops in local town Longyearbyen. The real estate development has gone hand-in-hand with an explosive growth in Arctic tourism.
