“The FEED design is an important milestone on the way to the investment decision for our Joensuu project. The project will triple our total capacity for green hydrogen production. We are very happy to take on this challenge together with Sunfire and its technology,” says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.

“The commissioning of the Harjavalta plant demonstrated the ability of P2X Solutions and Sunfire to successfully implement a commercial hydrogen project. I am excited that we are now taking our partnership to the next level in Joensuu. As a trusted technology partner of P2X Solutions, our mission is to accelerate the growth of the hydrogen economy in Finland and Europe,” says Nils Aldag, CEO of Sunfire.

Sunfire has already started a comprehensive FEED design to define the requirements and conditions for a 40 MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser in close cooperation with the integration partners. The outcome of this design will be a key element in the technical implementation of the project, ensuring to implement a commercial hydrogen project successfully its efficient execution.

The green hydrogen produced by the electrolysis plant in Joensuu will be used for the production of e-methanol. E-methanol is a synthetic fuel that plays a key role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, particularly in shipping and aviation.

A previous result of Sunfire’s cooperation with P2X Solutions is the successful commissioning of a 20 MW plant in Harjavalta. P2X Solutions will also use Sunfire’s pressurised alkaline technology at the Harjavalta plant.
