Tucked into a frozen mountainside in the High Arctic is one of the world’s most remarkable insurance policies for the future: the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. This secure facility, located on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, safeguards millions of seeds from around the world — a genetic backup meant to protect humanity’s food supply against catastrophe.

In this 60 Minutes Australia report, journalists travel to the remote vault to explore its origins, the science behind it and the stark scenarios it is designed to withstand, from climate disasters to nuclear war. The film offers a rare glimpse inside a project that blends Arctic isolation with global resilience.
