Weekend Video: Camp Century – The Hidden City Beneath Greenland’s Ice

Long before President Trump floated the idea of taking over Greenland, the U.S. had already carved out a secretive—and chilling—presence under its ice.
This documentary revisits Camp Century, a Cold War-era U.S. military installation buried deep beneath the Greenland Ice Sheet. Publicly pitched as a scientific outpost, Camp Century was in fact part of a covert project—Project Iceworm—designed to test whether nuclear missiles could be hidden beneath the Arctic ice and aimed at the Soviet Union.
The camp was eventually abandoned and with climate change now accelerating the melt of Greenland’s ice sheet, its remains—including radioactive waste and diesel fuel—may not stay buried forever.
As the Trump administration pushes to reassert U.S. power in Greenland, this film serves as a stark reminder of how far that ambition once went—and what legacies it left behind.
