The freighter Thamesborg has been refloated in the Northwest Passage after running aground on September 6 in Franklin Strait near the Tasmania Islands, and is now stable under escort toward a port of refuge with no injuries or pollution, reports Cabin Radio. The month-long operation involved cargo lightering, flooding control in damaged ballast tanks, and close coordination with Canadian Coast Guard assets.

  • Refloated around 6 a.m. local time Thursday after roughly a month aground in Franklin Strait.

  • More than 5,000 tons of industrial carbon blocks lightered to Silver Copenhagen and Nunalik.

  • MSV Botnica managed water ingress in damaged ballast tanks as CCGS Des Groseilliers escorted.

  • Owner says the vessel is stable and bound for a port of refuge with destination not disclosed.

  • No injuries or pollution reported during the grounding or refloat with cause under investigation.
