Reykjavík, Iceland, woke on Oct. 28 to a record October snowfall, the most for the month since 1921, that slowed the city to a stop. An orange alert was in effect and people were advised to stay home as crews focused on keeping main roads open while side streets filled back in.
Buses ran with delays, cars (those not completely stuck) skated on streets, sidewalks turned slick and visibility dropped in bursts.
For many, it became an indoor day by design — lights on, kettle up, watching the weather from the warm side of the window.
We’ve gathered a few scenes from the capital as it turned white overnight.
