Northvolt factory in Skellefteå closes
The closure of the factory means that more employees must leave.
It was at a staff meeting on Thursday that the bankruptcy trustee Mikael Kubu spoke about what will now happen to the factory.
Production will be reduced during June and will cease completely at the end of the month.
The fact that production has continued since the bankruptcy in March is due to the fact that the truck manufacturer Scania bought Northvolt’s entire production of batteries at an overprice.
“However, this arrangement is not sustainable in the long term for a single stakeholder and thus not for the bankruptcy estate. Therefore, the battery cell production in Northvolt Ett will be slowly phased out with the goal of stopping on 30 June. The work to find a buyer is progressing,” writes the bankruptcy trustee Mikael Kubu in a statement.
The factory in Skellefteå now employs 900 people.
