Finland to sign U.S. memorandum on icebreakers today

Finland is set to sign a White House memorandum of understanding during an official state visit by President Alexander Stubb today. The memorandum clears the way for Finnish-built icebreakers for the U.S. Coast Guard, with President Stubb saying the deal will pave the way for commercial contracts with Finnish companies, reports gCaptain.

Plan envisions four medium Arctic Security Cutters built in Finland with delivery targeted for 2028. U.S. yards would then build up to seven more using Finnish tech and know-how.
