At the Goose Mine, Gagnon will be responsible for “driving safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering strong relationships with local communities,” B2Gold announced Monday on its Facebook page.

Gagnon has worked in mining for 35 years.

For the past four years, he has been president and CEO of Gowest Gold Ltd. in Timmins, Ont.

From 2017 to 2019, he worked as general manager of TMAC Resources, which was developing the Hope Bay project in Nunavut until it was acquired by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. in 2021.

Goose Mine is located in the Back River area, about 400 kilometres south of Cambridge Bay. It had its grand opening in September, with B2Gold CEO Clive Johnson saying the mine is expected to produce 310,000 ounces of gold a year.

The mine is expected to produce for up to 14 years.

Along with the Goose Lake project, the company, headquartered in Vancouver, has four other gold mines worldwide including sites in Mali, the Philippines, Namibia and Colombia.
