Alaska Airlines to launch direct flights to Iceland in summer 2026

Isavia, the operator of Keflavík International Airport, announced Tuesday that Alaska Airlines will begin nonstop seasonal flights between Seattle and Reykjavik starting in summer 2026. The new route marks Alaska Airlines’ first service to Iceland and the company aims to further strengthen air links between the Pacific Northwest and Europe during the region’s peak travel season.
The daily summer service will connect Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) with Keflavík International Airport (KEF). According to Isavia, the addition of Alaska Airlines is a significant boost for Iceland’s tourism and aviation sectors, offering more transatlantic options to both Icelandic and North American travelers. It also reinforces KEF’s growing role as a transit hub between North America and the European continent.
“This new route reflects the growing interest in Iceland from U.S. travelers and underlines Keflavík Airport’s readiness to serve expanding international services,” Isavia said in a statement.
The launch comes as part of Alaska Airlines’ broader international expansion strategy. The carrier plans to develop Seattle into a global gateway, with at least 12 long-haul international destinations operating from SEA by 2030. Alongside Reykjavik, Alaska will also begin year-round service to London Heathrow in spring 2026.
In announcing the Reykjavik route, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci emphasized the airline’s ambition to transform its global presence while tapping into growing demand for travel to Iceland.
“Iceland remains a bucket-list destination for adventure lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, and KEF will continue to serve our guests as a convenient gateway to the European continent,” said Minicucci. “The launch of direct flights to KEF is accelerating our vision to connect guests with the world by seizing this moment to redefine the international experience and level up.”
