đłđ´ KSAT launches Hyper: Orbiting ground stations to reduce latency for faster access to actionable data
Operating in low Earth orbit, the satellites will deliver rapid connectivity, giving customers quicker access to critical space data and supporting timely, informed decision-making.
SMALLSAT 2025, SALT LAKE CITY â In an age where rapid decision-making relies heavily on timely satellite data, the demand for even lower latency continues to grow. Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has for decades helped the satellite industry to achieve the lowest latency data delivery through the world’s largest commercial ground station network with more than 300 antennas at 29 sites. Now, KSAT is taking new steps to help customers further enhance data delivery to make space data actionable faster.
KSAT introduces Hyper: orbiting ground stations designed to drastically reduce latency.
The Hyper satellites will be launched to LEO, where they will enable low-latency connectivity for customers exactly when and where itâs needed. When a customerâs satellite passes over an area of interest far from the nearest ground station, it can achieve quick space-to-ground connection using Hyper with little impact on operations.
Hyperâs service is designed to be intuitive, providing the same user-friendly interface KSAT customers already know with KSATlite, the world-leading commercial Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS). Connecting to Hyper is therefore as plug-and-play as connecting to KSATlite.
Why is KSAT launching Hyper?
âIn connecting space and Earth, near-real-time services have always been a key priority for KSAT,â says Arnulf Kjeldsen, EVP of Strategy and Technology (image). âHyper will reduce the latency for EO data to a minimum and ensure data becoming actionable, significantly increasing its value for the satellite owner and the end user. This is particularly vital for missions for maintaining strategic surveillance and situational awareness,â he continues.
Building on decades of experience in satellite communications, KSAT continues to bring new capabilities to meet market needs. Today, what the industry needs is significantly lower latencies. Hyper is KSATâs response to this challenge, leveraging our existing global ground network, extensive space-to-ground expertise and decades of operational reliability. KSAT understands that customers value simplicity. Thatâs why if youâre compatible with KSATlite, youâll also be compatible with Hyper.
Why lower latencies matter
In critical scenarios, from environmental disasters to national security threats, the need for timely and actionable insights has never been greater. Low-latency satellite data ensures rapid response and informed decisions. Whether managing a forest fire, monitoring global security concerns or tracking dark vessels, access to updated data is essential for situational awareness. Hyper expands KSATâs abilities even further, helping deliver critical data when it matters most.
Resilient communications for a complex world
Hyper will add resilient data connectivity and offer safe alternative data routing by utilizing KSATâs global ground network coverage. When relaying data through space-based nodes, Hyper can bypass potential unforeseen events on the ground, ensuring continuously secure data transmission. Additionally, customers can specify downlink locations on sovereign soil, reinforcing data sovereignty and security.
Flexible cost efficiency tailored to customer needs
Understanding that mission requirements vary widely, KSAT designed Hyperâs pricing model for optimal flexibility. Customers can book Hyper passes based on latency and urgency requirements, ensuring cost efficiency. When ground stations are accessible, KSATâs integrated systems prioritize them automatically, optimizing both performance and cost.
Get your data when it matters. Always.
