Weekend Video: Quite possibly the northernmost talk show on Earth

Late-night talk shows usually beam in from LA or New York, but this one tapes in front of a live studio audience in Umeå, in northern Sweden. Same format you know, just a few hundred kilometres closer to the North Pole.

It’s called Arctic Night Live, hosted by Amund Sjølie Sveen and he’s basically the Arctic’s answer to Jimmy Kimmel. A host, a desk, a live crowd and a comedic news roundup that puts the politics of the north on the hot seat. Well, as hot as it gets up there.

This edition’s part of the Arctic Arts Summit and Sveen’s lineup doesn’t disappoint: Norway’s Minister of Culture stops by as a guest, there’s a set of Finnish music to keep the room thawed out and enough sharp comedy to prove the funniest desk in television is the one with frost on it.

So pour something hot, settle in and give it a watch. It’s the coolest hour on the schedule and that’s no snow job.
