The Arctic Circular Economy Summit (ACES) returns to Kirkenes, Norway’s northeasternmost town, from 7–9 October 2025, bringing together participants from across the Arctic and beyond.

Now in its second edition, the summit is designed as a meeting place for people interested in circular solutions that fit the specific realities of the Far North. Operating in the region comes with one-of-a-kind challenges such as limited infrastructure, harsh conditions and long distances, but also unique opportunities. Organizers see the circular economy not only as a way to reduce waste but also as a chance for businesses to create more sustainable models and even unlock new revenue streams.

Bringing together more than 200 participants from 10+ countries, with delegations from Greenland and Finland, the event serves as a Nordic Arctic meeting point that reaches beyond the region.

ACES connects youth and experts from the Arctic and other remote areas to learn from inspiring circular cases, grow networks and create collaborations. It covers business-focused topics such as seafood, tourism, construction, fashion and technology.

Among the inspirational speakers will be Dr. Alexandra Leeper (Iceland Ocean Cluster), known for the 100% Fish concept; Jean Darling (Cirque du Soil), who will bring perspectives and experiences from Australia; and Iiro Kankaansyrjä (Kapasity Oy), offering insights into the geopolitical dimension and the role of the circular economy.

Beyond speakers and panels, the event’s purpose is to enable lasting connections. Entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and international experts will be within reach. A dedicated matchmaking tool will also help participants connect efficiently, ensuring they make the most of their time in Kirkenes.

Funding will be another key focus. Representatives from five organizations that support cross-border projects—Nordic Atlantic Cooperation (NORA), the Nordic Institute in Greenland (NAPA), Nordic Innovation, Interreg NPA and the Norwegian Barents Secretariat—will be present. ACES may provide the starting point for building the collaborative projects that secure such funding.

As one of the official World Circular Economy Forum Side Events, ACES is a reminder that the Arctic is not only a region with specific constraints, but also a place where new approaches to circularity can emerge.

With Kirkenes itself undergoing change, including iron ore mine and port development projects, the event positions the Arctic as a place of business opportunities.

Arctic Today will be present on the ground at ACES 2025, covering the discussions and outcomes.
