🇸🇪 Svekon signs contract with MBDA for the concept development of a next-generation Ground-Based Air Defence capability in the Nordic region

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (June 24, 2026) — Svekon (Svensk Konstruktionstjänst AB) today announced the signing of a strategic contract with MBDA, one of Europe’s leading defence companies, for the development of a new Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) concept with capabilities tailored for the Nordic region.

The agreement marks an important milestone for both companies and reflects the growing demand for advanced, resilient, and interoperable air defence systems in Northern Europe.

The collaboration will focus on strengthening regional defence capabilities while leveraging Swedish engineering excellence and MBDA’s extensive expertise in missile systems and integrated air defence solutions.

“This is a very proud moment for Svekon and for the Swedish defence industry as a whole. Partnering with MBDA on such an important capability reinforces our role as a trusted contributor to future air defence systems in the Nordic region,” said Martin Frisk, deputy CEO of Svekon.

The partnership is aligned with the evolving security landscape in Europe and supports increased cooperation within NATO and among the Nordic countries. Combining Svekon’s innovative engineering with MBDA’s proven defence technologies and both companies’ system integration capabilities, the program aims to contribute to enhanced operational effectiveness and security across the region.

“MBDA is known for supporting a robust supplier base and our willingness to collaborate with partners in Sweden and Europe. Cooperation is part of our DNA, and we are delighted to welcome SME Svekon—a highly skilled, experienced and dedicated engineering company with its roots in Sweden—that will support our ambitions to develop an Arctic launcher for CAMM/CAMM-ER,” said Peter Bäckström, director Export Nordic Region, MBDA.

The contract also focuses on cross-border industrial cooperation and the importance of building resilient, sovereign capabilities within Europe’s defence sector, including SME skills.

“MBDA’s collaboration with Svekon embodies MBDA’s commitment to building partnerships with Swedish Industry. This collaboration will deliver further technological developments and enhance respective sovereign and European capabilities,” said George Kyriakides, group international industrial cooperation director, MBDA.
