🇬🇱 Local Greenland wins Greenland Tourism Award 2026

September 21, 2026

The Greenland Tourism Award is an annual initiative by Visit Greenland and Air Greenland, celebrating local tourism businesses that lead by example and help shape the future of tourism in Greenland.

This year, nominations came from guests, locals and people across the tourism industry, and afterwards a jury selected the three finalists and ultimately the winner. A big thank you to everyone who nominated, cheered and followed along!

What makes Local Greenland stand out?

A strong commitment to responsible tourism

Local Greenland puts sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of their business and has achieved international GSTC sustainability certification.

Spreading tourism across South Greenland

From short boat tours to multi-day camping trips and expeditions, they create experiences across Qaqortoq, Nanortalik, Qassiarsuk and Tasermiut Fjord. This helps spread tourism across the region while creating more opportunities for meaningful connections between guests, local communities and the places they visit.

Cruise tourism rooted in local culture

They also work with cruise guests, focusing on experiences rooted in local culture and knowledge. Through local guides, guests can experience drum dancing, kalattuut (Greenlandic polka), kaffemik and kayaking, while supporting local businesses and communities.

Giving back to their community

Their commitment goes beyond the experiences they offer. They prioritise local sourcing and partnerships, organise initiatives such as “We Clean – We Care” in Qaqortoq, and have even arranged a free boat trip for the local elders’ association.

On top of all that, they are known for going the extra mile for their guests, taking the time to understand their needs and create personal experiences. Their efforts have been recognised with the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award two years in a row.

With this, Local Greenland shows how a tourism business can grow successfully while keeping nature, community and local value at its heart.

Thank you for everything you do and keep up the great work!
