🇫🇴 Generation Nordic brings together 39 young Nordic voices in the Faroe Islands
Faroe Islands, October 12–14, 2026
The Nordic Atlantic Cooperation (NORA) held the youth summit Generation Nordic in the Faroe Islands. 39 participants between 18–30 were selected out of 340 applicants to participate in three days of networking, company visits and workshops.
The program
The first day consisted of a visit to Gásadalur, followed by Human Bingo and dinner in Tórshavn. In the evening, they took the ferry to Suðuroy.
Day two began with team building and competitions, organized by Outdoor Faroe Islands. The first session of the day ended with ziplining, and the whole group embraced the challenge. The program also included presentations from Vágs municipality and a visit to Biskupskelda, a local brewery. In Suðuroy, they had the opportunity to think about what kind of challenges they face as young people in the Nordic region. They were given the challenge of creating a hypothetical application for a NORA project. The workshop served as the groundwork for the final day’s task.
The last day took place back in Tórshavn. The participants visited Ocean Rainforest and Hugskotið. At Hugskotið they got an insight into local start-ups, NPA’s Youth Call and Visit Faroe Islands’ marketing strategy. After lunch, they worked in groups to build digital solutions to yesterday’s problems in a hackathon. The hackathon was organized by Bilt.me.
Generation Nordic ended with a gala dinner at OY. Youth advocate Lars Westra gave a talk urging the participants to find their “why”.
Pitch competition
The weekend culminated in pitches from six groups presenting results from the workshop and hackathon. The groups came up with a number of creative and impressive solutions.
Hemly, which connects young people looking for affordable housing with older people who have space in their homes, was selected as the winning pitch. The jury pointed out that the group had addressed a genuine challenge for young people, and that the solution reflected NORA’s strategy well. The idea is an innovative example of social entrepreneurship and has the potential to be scaled to the entire Nordic region.
Other pitches included Car-a-Ã¥ke, a car-sharing app to make transportation more accessible; Nordurlens, a joint Nordic news platform; Nordreach, connecting professionals with residents of areas they’re considering moving to; Nordic Detours, linking travelers with lesser-visited destinations; and Heimbygd, an app gathering information about jobs, housing and opportunities in smaller Nordic communities.
Following the summit, a participant stated: “Generation Nordic not only gave me the inspiration but also the tools to go out and make a difference”. NORA extends its thanks to all the participants, partners, speakers and local organisations who contributed to making Generation Nordic a success.
