🇩🇰 Visibuilt raises €3.34 million to bring biobased binders closer to market
Visibuilt, a Danish biotechnology company developing biobased alternatives to conventional carbon-intensive construction binders, has secured EUR 3.34 million in seed funding co-led by EIFO and Unconventional Ventures followed by Proptechfonden and backed again by earlier investor EMDFonden.
The investment will support the next stage of the company’s development as it moves from laboratory-scale pilots towards validating the biobased binder platform in the market and larger-scale tests of production design with industry partners. The binder technology, visiBINDER, is a mycelium-based binder designed for paving and infrastructure applications.
Strong support for a new generation of construction materials
The funding round was completed with two strong leads from EIFO and UV, both backing Visibuilt’s ambition to replace carbon-intensive binders with biobased alternatives.
“Closing this seed round is an important milestone for Visibuilt. It enables us to mature our technical platform, validate our solution at a larger scale, and take the next steps towards the market,” says Line Kloster Pedersen, CEO and Founder of Visibuilt.

Developing an alternative to bitumen and cement
Construction and infrastructure rely heavily on binders such as bitumen and cement, both associated with significant carbon emissions. Visibuilt is developing visiBINDER, a biobased binder produced from mycelium — the root structure of fungi. The technology is designed to offer a less energy intensive solution for paving materials while meeting the durability and performance requirements of outdoor applications.
By combining biotechnology and material science, the company aims to enable a new category of lower-impact construction materials for roads, paths, and other infrastructure projects.
Next step: validation at scale
The new funding will allow Visibuilt to expand testing and validation activities, establish the production setup required for larger-scale trials, and strengthen the team with additional technical and commercial expertise.
These activities will support the company’s ambition to demonstrate the technology in real-world applications and prepare for future market introduction.
